The number 925 is a millesimal fineness mark that indicates the silver content of the metal. When stamped inside a ring, it certifies that the piece contains at least 92.5% pure silver by weight, with the remaining 7.5% made up of other metals — most commonly copper. This specific ratio is the internationally recognized standard for sterling silver, and the 925 mark is used worldwide to identify it.

Pure silver (marked 999) is too soft for everyday ring wear. The small percentage of copper in sterling silver dramatically improves the metal's hardness and durability, making it suitable for rings that will be worn daily.
